Support for Parents

Watching your child struggle, having his/her school contact you with concerns or overhearing comments about him/her, from other parents, is very upsetting. You may have had a niggling concern or none at all before Nursery or School or he/she may not have raised concern until later. You may feel overwhelmed by conversations about additional needs, the SEN register, referrals for assessments or an application for an EHCP. The terminology can be confusing and being asked to make decisions which may have long term impact, can be stressful.

Happy children thrive.

Children thrive where they feel safe, valued and understood.

Learning, progress and achievement will follow.

Why have an Observation?

Children can behave very differently at home and school and this can lead to parents and staff feeling unheard.

An observation by a third party can support recognition and increase understanding, leading to agreed next steps and additional planned support.

Any observations in school need consent from the Headteacher and will be unbiased

What is an EHCP?

An Education, Health & Care Plan is a legally binding document used in the UK, to support children and young people up to the age of 25, who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

They have SMART targets. This ensures personalised planning and support for your child. They are the footsteps of your child’s Learning for Life pathway.

Specific: Clear and focused goals help pinpoint exactly what needs improvement

Measurable: Progress can be tracked using data like test scores, attendance rates, or feedback.

Achievable: Goals are realistic and within reach, avoiding frustration or burnout.

Relevant: Targets align with personal learning priorities— pupil wellbeing and emotional development, physical skills, communication & social skills and specific areas of learning, such as Reading, Writing or Maths

Time-bound: Deadlines create urgency and structure, keeping everyone accountable
